Rolling in the Deep Lipsticks

photo 5 (3) I have a problem. Every time I see someone on Instagram post a picture wearing a dark lip color, I immediately add it to my online Sephora basket. This bad habit is what led to an enormous collection of dark reds, burgundies and berries in my lip collection. These colors are so flattering with the copper and grey colors I tend to gravitate to in my wardrobe this time of year and look so good with every single fall outfit I own.

If you couldn’t already tell by the sheer number of these that I own, my favorite formulation for dark lipsticks is the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. These let you skip lip liner and create a perfectly even pout with no need for touch ups. They are so easy to use and have such a great range of colors that I rarely pick out other lipsticks from my collection. I did stray from my obsession with the Velvet Matte Lip when I saw the Nars Audacious Lip Color in Vivien. This is a perfect deep plummy red color that is neither too drying nor glossy and sits comfortably on the lips. The Audacious Lipsticks aren’t nearly as long-lasting as the Velvet Mattes, so this is saved for occasions when I know I will have access to a mirror for touch-ups. For a darker, yet sheerer wash of color, I go for the Semi Matte Lipstick in Scarlet Empress. This is a true dark berry and is about as dark as I go on the lipstick spectrum. I love the sheer and moisturizing formula though, so I wear this almost every weekend. The Sixties Fan and Tiber pair perfectly over any of these dark lipstick colors for an added dose of shine.

Although I love my Nars, the best deep red for this time of year and one of my prized possessions is MAC’s RiRi Woo. This was a super popular limited edition Retro Matte Lipstick by Rihanna, but it is so similar to Ruby Woo that you can get away with using that as a dupe. This color is super difficult to apply and dries out my lips like no other, but the color is so flattering that I put up with both of those annoyances. Ruby and RiRi Woo are my perfect, holy grail reds and I will continue to buy them till kingdom come.

What are your favorite fall lipstick colors? Let me know which ones I should buy next!
